A new breast cancer diagnosis can be a lonely experience, and the reconstructive process can seem long and onerous. One of my most important roles is to offer hope along this journey, and a vision of what life can be like AFTER breast cancer.

While before and after photographs are useful to an extent, we believe it is even more important to hear how other women feel, having gone through their own breast cancer diagnosis and DIEP flap reconstruction.

Many of our patients are happy to be contacted in person, but it can be daunting to reach out to a stranger and share personal and private feelings. So on this page they have generously shared their stories, written at the end of their reconstructions. Each story is unique, and your situation may be quite different to theirs. But the most important message we hope you take from these stories is that you are not alone, and there is life AFTER breast cancer.

Reach out any time. Don’t leave any question unasked. We are here to help.

All stories were written by the patients without our input or influence. In compliance with current regulatory guidelines we have removed any references to Dr Dusseldorp’s clinical care or surgical results that could be considered testimonial.

Please let us know if you would like to connect personally with any of these patients.
